An Analysis of Linear and Non-linear Controller on Quasi-Resonant Buck Converter

A Proportional-Integral (PI) controller and a non-linear Fuzzy and Neuro controller is designed and its application to the regulation of 54V, 2.916kW Quasi-Resonant Buck Converter is comparatively investigated. PI controller involves Proportional gain (Kp) and Integral time (Ki) parameters whose manual tuning provides an appropriate action. Fuzzy logic is on the notion of graded membership and mechanism for representing linguistic concept whereas the Neuro controller synergizes structure-learning algorithm to find an appropriate rule and parameter-learning algorithm to fine-tune the membership functions. Evaluation of output is by simulation in MATLAB 7.5 software at 200 kHz and the result is depicted for five operating conditions where peak overshoot and settling time measures the system performance. It is verified on simulation that the Neuro controller achieves a good timedomain characteristics over PI and Fuzzy Controller. A PI controller is implemented using an operational amplifier LM324 for experimental verification and the results agree with simulation to an appreciable degree.
